WOMEN EMANCIPATION
In line with Sustainable Development Goal 5 (achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls), the Foundation works to re-purpose development and empowerment discourse to include women and girls. Numerous development hurdles and deficiencies are caused by the absence of women participation in community-critical decision making.
Most women in rural communities are trapped in a cycle of poverty, physical labor and childbirth. These problems are frequently compounded by unlawful practices. The Foundation avail assists women and girls to realize their full potential and to become confident individuals who can male most of the opportunities they get to succeed. Our activities targeting women are listed below.
Mon Weng Empowerment
This initiative provides didactic training to women and young girls in a variety of skills ranging from tailoring, farming, baking, and catering. This is meant to remove them from risky environments.
Ending Gender-Based Violence and Early ChildMarriage.
Alebtong Foundation tackles and challenges GBV and ECM through Community engagements and follow-up, direct action to eliminate the multipliers and propagators of these two practices, and engagement with the Uganda Police Force.
Beyond Period Poverty (Menstrual Health Management)
This project explores the sustainable production of sanitary hygiene materials using pro-poor technologies. Our goal is to produce and distribute pads within rural communities in Alebtong District.
